Future PS3 Client for Guild Wars
Has anyone else been following the Game Developer's Conference in LA?
I remember an interview a while ago with one of the GW higher-ups touch on the idea of game clients for XBox360 and PS3 and well... it's now confirmed that PS3 will have a harddrive out of the box, plus developers can hook their own servers in, and I'm thinking...
GW on a phat HDTV in the living room?!
How cool would that be! I might not get around to that setup for the best part of a year (new TV... bleh), but hey! The future's looking bright!

Can't you already use computer -> TV? FFXI for PlayStation2 was recieved as being very "eh" - I suppose that I just don't see the point in porting GW (x86) to the Cell or PPC.

FFXI was PS2 (Japan) 1st, then ported over to Windows -> Then US PS2, then (beta currently) xbox360.
FFXI screams controler (with the excpetion of chat) the game play much better via controller then keyboard. I did use the usb keyboard for the PS2 for chat, everything else controller. (I played on PS2, wife used PC).

What id say was more likly, is a PS3 only chapter that way all content and the UI can be tuned to the console.

The GW servers are client independant, so you could have PC, Xbox360 and PS3 players all in the same party
The account keys are tied to your account on the server, so of course you wouldn't have to buy another copy of GW or anything - just get a copy of the client. I like the idea of being able to play the same characters on whatever I feel like at the time - obviously I wouldn't stop using my PC sometimes
It's like, if I want to hide away and play quietly then I can use the PC - or if I feel like crashing out in comfort I could play in the living room - options, options

Psst... PCs hook up nicely to projectors and other hdtvs. wireless key board and mouse ftw. Oh, and if you really wanna use a psx/2/3/xbox controller, grab an adapter from radioshack. Not hard.

Since the ps3 is 3x more powerful than my comp and will be cheaper than buying a comp with equal power. This is a good idea for players and is even better for customer's that have comps less powerfull than the ps3.

GW on ps3? never, several things, ps3 will be delayed and delayed, price is up, expectaions down, the cell based processor is still unstable and is part reason for the delays, the system on ps3 is more complicated than linux to program in (part the cell processors fault), blue ray discs don't remember amount of space but preeeeettttyyyy biiiiig around 50GB? well, pretty games if you fill that out, who ever will make a game that takes that kinda space anyway? meaning, ps3 might not get full use of blueray = waste of money on blueray reader, more work for devs to fill out space, longer development for games = price up, further more, if you went above 5GB room for a game that means a regular dvd don't have room and a blueray disc is to big for it, waste of money. So if Anet decided to make GW for Ps3 and X360 then the constant updates would be lesser and we would not get any service, porting from pc to something requires time and patience, it isn't just to throw in some extra coding and then play, belive me, Halo for Xbox is way better than Halo for pc, and they threw in a little extra stuff for the pc version

Meh, my computer with a TV-output on the video card still beats any gaming console available to mankind.

God I hope that GW will never hits consoles. I’ve seen to many great PC games go consoles and screwed future expansions or a new game for PC. Why because game makes put all or the majority the resources in the consoles rather then PC.

I don't know where you get your sources but you might want to check again. MOST developers say that it will be easier to program than 360 is. Just about every game is going to programmed using Unreal Tournement 06 game engine which as we know is very comprihensive, very adaptable, and looks great.
The delays in lauch are completely false. The delay has been addition and removal of hardware decisions. They decided to remove the hard drive and make it an optional accessory. Online game devs did not like they and most conusmers did not like that decision. Since they have put the HD back in. Other components have been removed to reduce cost to consumer and Sony.
Blue ray is going to give developers more room to create even bigger games at better quality. It will be more expensive but as with anything you get what you pay for. If they increased the size to something slightly larger than what we have now that will limit the developers. Sony is well know for giving the developers exactly what they need to make games and to create FUTURE games. We might not need that space now but what about 5-8 years?

I think the biggest obstacle would be coding it for PS3. From preliminary reports the PS3 is looking to be more difficult to code for than XBox 360. I don't see it happening but it would be kind of cool. My source for the harder to program for thing? Why Game Informer of course. They did a side by side comparison last issue and that was one of the cons listed. Considering XBox 360 is more like a specialized PC, I mean it even uses aspects of Vista code in it's design, I imagine it would be much easier to write for.
